Example 8 Discuss the continuity of the function f given by 𝑓 ﷐𝑥﷯= 𝑥3 + 𝑥2 − 1. Given 𝑓 ﷐𝑥﷯= 𝑥3 + 𝑥2 − 1. Let c be any real number. 𝑓 is continuous at 𝑥=c if ﷐lim﷮x→𝑐﷯ 𝑓﷐𝑥﷯=𝑓(𝑐) Thus, ﷐lim﷮x→𝑐﷯ 𝑓﷐𝑥﷯=𝑓(𝑐) Hence, f is continuous at 𝑥 =𝑐 ⇒ f is continuous for x = c, where c ∈R ∴ f is continuous for every real number
