Concepts are presented in simple language without removing the scientific detail students need for school examinations and future classes.

Whether your school follows the new NCERT Curiosity Class 8 Science textbook or you are looking for solutions to a chapter from the previous NCERT book, the required learning material is organised here.

NCERT Class 8 Science Curiosity

The new Curiosity Class 8 Science book develops scientific thinking through investigations, activities, real-life observations and evidence-based explanations. Students are encouraged to ask questions, design investigations, analyse results and connect ideas from different branches of Science.

The book contains 13 chapters:

1. Exploring the Investigative World of Science

This chapter introduces scientific investigation as a systematic process. Students learn how to ask testable questions, make observations, form a hypothesis, plan an investigation, collect evidence and draw conclusions.

2. The Invisible Living World: Beyond Our Naked Eye

Students explore microorganisms that cannot normally be seen without magnification. The chapter introduces the microscopic world and explains how microorganisms can be both useful and harmful.

3. Health: The Ultimate Treasure

This chapter develops a broader understanding of health. Students examine the importance of nutrition, hygiene, physical activity, mental well-being, disease prevention and healthy surroundings.

4. Electricity: Magnetic and Heating Effects

Students investigate the magnetic and heating effects of electric current. The chapter connects electric circuits with electromagnets, heating elements, electrical appliances and the safe use of electricity.

5. Exploring Forces

This chapter explains force as a push or pull that can change an object’s motion, direction or shape. Students compare contact and non-contact forces and study familiar examples involving muscular force, friction, magnetism, electrostatic force and gravity.

6. Pressure, Winds, Storms and Cyclones

Students learn how force acting over an area produces pressure. The chapter connects air pressure and differences in temperature with the movement of air, winds, thunderstorms and cyclones.

7. Particulate Nature of Matter

This chapter introduces the idea that matter is made of extremely small particles. Students use observations and activities to understand the spaces between particles, their continuous movement and their attraction towards one another.

8. Nature of Matter: Elements, Compounds and Mixtures

Students learn how matter can be classified into elements, compounds and mixtures. They compare these categories and examine how substances combine or remain physically mixed.

9. The Amazing World of Solutes, Solvents and Solutions

This chapter explains how solutions are formed. Students learn about solutes, solvents, soluble and insoluble substances, saturated and unsaturated solutions, concentration and factors affecting solubility.

10. Light: Mirrors and Lenses

Students explore how mirrors and lenses interact with light. The chapter develops an understanding of reflection, image formation and the uses of different mirrors and lenses in everyday life.

11. Keeping Time with the Skies

This chapter examines how people have used regular patterns in the sky to measure time. Students study the apparent movement of the Sun, phases of the Moon, seasons and other repeating astronomical patterns.

12. How Nature Works in Harmony

Students explore relationships among living organisms and their surroundings. The chapter shows how plants, animals, microorganisms and environmental factors interact within natural systems.

13. Our Home: Earth, a Unique Life-Sustaining Planet

This chapter examines the conditions that make Earth suitable for life. Students study the importance of air, water, suitable temperature, soil and the interconnected systems that support living organisms.

Together, these chapters connect Physics, Chemistry, Biology, health, environmental science and astronomy. They also develop essential scientific skills such as observation, measurement, classification, experimentation, reasoning and interpretation of evidence.

Old NCERT Class 8 Science Chapters

Teachoo also provides resources for the previous NCERT Class 8 Science textbook. These chapters remain valuable for schools using the older book, students who need additional practice and teachers searching for explanations and question sets on specific topics.

The old NCERT book contains 18 chapters:

  1. Crop Production and Management

  2. Microorganisms: Friend and Foe

  3. Synthetic Fibres and Plastics

  4. Materials: Metals and Non-Metals

  5. Coal and Petroleum

  6. Combustion and Flame

  7. Conservation of Plants and Animals

  8. Cell—Structure and Functions

  9. Reproduction in Animals

  10. Reaching the Age of Adolescence

  11. Force and Pressure

  12. Friction

  13. Sound

  14. Chemical Effects of Electric Current

  15. Some Natural Phenomena

  16. Light

  17. Stars and the Solar System

  18. Pollution of Air and Water

These chapters cover important Biology topics such as microorganisms, cells, reproduction, adolescence and conservation. Chemistry topics include synthetic materials, metals and non-metals, fuels, combustion and the chemical effects of electric current. Physics topics include force, pressure, friction, sound, lightning, earthquakes and light.

The old textbook also develops environmental awareness through chapters on crop production, coal and petroleum, conservation, pollution and responsible use of natural resources.

Keeping the new Curiosity chapters and old NCERT chapters together allows students to locate a concept even when its title, chapter number or organisation has changed.

What Will Students Find on Teachoo?

Teachoo divides every Class 8 Science chapter into smaller, manageable parts. Depending on the chapter, students can access:

  • Easy-to-understand concept explanations

  • NCERT questions with detailed solutions

  • Questions given at the end of the chapter

  • Important definitions and scientific terms

  • Activities and experiments explained step by step

  • Diagrams, tables, examples and flowcharts

  • Multiple-choice questions

  • Assertion-reason questions

  • Case-based and competency-based questions

  • Teachoo’s additional practice questions

  • Worksheets and revision questions

  • Exploratory projects

  • Discover, Design and Debate activities

  • Lakhmir Singh concepts and questions

  • Video explanations

Solutions are written to help students understand the reasoning behind an answer. Instead of only giving the final response, Teachoo explains the relevant concept, observation and conclusion.

This is particularly useful for questions that ask students to give reasons, differentiate between terms, interpret an experiment, analyse data, draw conclusions or apply a concept to a real-life situation.

How to Study Class 8 Science Effectively

Begin each chapter with its concept explanations. Pay close attention to activities, diagrams, tables and experimental observations because these often form the basis of application-based examination questions.

After understanding a concept, attempt the related NCERT questions independently. Compare your answer with the detailed solution, identify missing scientific terms or reasoning, and answer the question again.

Use the following sequence:

Concepts → Activities → NCERT Questions → Teachoo Questions → MCQs → Case-Based Questions → Revision

For chapters involving diagrams—such as cells, electric circuits, mirrors, lenses or astronomical systems—practise drawing and labelling the diagram separately. For numerical topics involving force, pressure, motion or solutions, write the given information, select the correct relationship and include the unit in the final answer.

This method builds understanding, improves answer-writing and reduces dependence on memorisation.
