Ex 6.1, 5 (i) Find the perimeters of the following shapes (taking the arcs to be quarter or half or three-quarters of a circle, as appropriate) Let’s label all sides and radius The two semicircles have Diameter 60 m ∴ Radius of semicircle = r = 30 m Now, Perimeter of shape = 80 + 80 + 2 × Perimeter of semicircle = 80 + 80 + 2 × 1/2 × 2𝜋𝑟 = 80 + 80 + 2𝜋𝑟 = 80 + 80 + 𝟐 ×𝟐𝟐/𝟕 × 𝟑𝟎 = 160 + 1320/7 = (160 × 7 + 1320)/7 = (1120 + 1320)/7 = 2440/7 = 348.57 m
