The process involved:
How was a body mummified?
Organs removed
all except the heart
↓
Body dried
with natron, a natural salt
↓
Oiled and wrapped
in linen strips
↓
Placed in a coffin
- Removing the internal organs , except the heart
- Oiling the body
- Wrapping it in linen strips - linen is a cloth made from a plant
- Placing it in a coffin and burying it with rituals
Beyond the textbook: the usual explanation is that the heart held the record of a person's deeds.
