India and the Silk Route
Two things travelled
1. Goods
Indian exports
Example:
Spices
Cotton textiles
Precious stones
2. Ideas
Beliefs travelled too
Example:
Buddhism, India to China
- The Silk Route was not one road but a network of routes linking China with West Asia and Europe.
- Branches of it passed through India.
- Along with goods, ideas and religion also travelled . Buddhism spread from India into China through these routes.
- So the route carried both trade and culture in both directions.
