A revolution means a change that turns everything upside down. Farming did exactly that.
- Humans stopped moving from place to place and began to live in one place .
- Food was now produced , not just collected .
- Surplus food meant some people could do other work .
- They took up crafts, trade and ruling.
- It led to villages, then towns, then cities .
A simple change would have affected only one thing. This changed the whole way of life.
Why do you think the shift to farming during the Neolithic period is called a revolution rather than a simple change? Discuss with your classmates.
