Question 9 A rectangular pool has area 2š„^2+7š„+3 square hastas. If its width is 2š„+1 hastas, find its length. Hasta was a unit used to measure length. We know that Area of rectangle = Length Ć Breadth šš^š+šš+š = Length Ć (šš+š) Thus, we need to factorise šš^š+šš+š Now, šš^š+šš+š Factorising by Splitting the middle term = 2š„^2+šš+š+3 = 2š„(š„+3)+1(š„+3) = (šš+š)(š+š) Since Width = (šš+š) Thus, Length = (š±+š) hastas Splitting the middle term method We need to find two numbers whose Sum = 7 Product = 2 Ć 3 = 6 Since sum is negative but product is positive. Thus, both numbers are positive
