Question 9 A rectangular pool has area 2š‘„^2+7š‘„+3 square hastas. If its width is 2š‘„+1 hastas, find its length. Hasta was a unit used to measure length. We know that Area of rectangle = Length Ɨ Breadth šŸš’™^šŸ+šŸ•š’™+šŸ‘ = Length Ɨ (šŸš’™+šŸ) Thus, we need to factorise šŸš’™^šŸ+šŸ•š’™+šŸ‘ Now, šŸš’™^šŸ+šŸ•š’™+šŸ‘ Factorising by Splitting the middle term = 2š‘„^2+šŸ”š’™+š’™+3 = 2š‘„(š‘„+3)+1(š‘„+3) = (šŸš’™+šŸ)(š’™+šŸ‘) Since Width = (šŸš’™+šŸ) Thus, Length = (š±+šŸ‘) hastas Splitting the middle term method We need to find two numbers whose Sum = 7 Product = 2 Ɨ 3 = 6 Since sum is negative but product is positive. Thus, both numbers are positive
