You are Ram/ Rajani, a resident of Nagpur. You feel students should use the Internet  mostly for gaining knowledge rather than wasting away time merely on entertainment.  Write a letter in 120-150 words to the Editor, ‘The Harbinger’, 9, Bund Marg, Hyderabad,  pointing out how schools can control students’ net surfing at school and enable them to  use the Internet fruitfully.

Answer as written by the student:

9, Bund Marg Hyderabad 10 October 2023

The Editor The Harbinger Hyderabad

Subject: How schools can control students’ net surfing at school and enable them to use the Internet fruitfully

Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to express my concern over the misuse of the Internet by students at school . The Internet is a powerful tool that can provide a wealth of information and knowledge to students. However, many students use the Internet mostly for entertainment purposes, such as watching videos, playing games, chatting, etc. This not only wastes their time and energy, but also distracts them from their studies and affects their academic performance.

I feel that schools should take some measures to control students’ net surfing at school and enable them to use the Internet fruitfully. Some of the possible measures are:

  • Installing software that blocks or filters inappropriate or irrelevant websites and content on the school computers and networks.
  • Monitoring and regulating the time and frequency of students’ access to the Internet at school.
  • Providing guidance and training to students on how to use the Internet effectively and responsibly for learning and research purposes.
  • Encouraging and rewarding students who use the Internet creatively and productively for their projects, assignments, presentations, etc.
  • Creating awareness among students about the benefits and challenges of using the Internet, such as enhancing their skills, knowledge, and communication, as well as avoiding cyberbullying, plagiarism, addiction, etc.

I hope that you will publish my letter in your esteemed newspaper and draw the attention of the concerned authorities and stakeholders to this issue. I also hope that schools will implement these measures and help students to use the Internet as a boon rather than a bane.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely, Ram/Rajani
