The provisions that constitute India as a secular country are as follows-

  • Secularism is an idea that constitutes one of the foundations of our country .
  • No official religion in the Indian state. Our constitution does not give a special status to any religion.
  • Freedom to profess, practice, and propagate any religion , or not to follow any.
  • The constitution prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion .
  • The state can intervene in the matter of religion in order to ensure equality within religious communities to maintain public order. For example- it bans untouchability.
