Question 2 - Think & Reflect (Page 94) What is the length of the longest chord in a circle of radius 5 units? Is there a smallest chord? Let’s draw a circle with radius 5 cm Chord is a line-segment joining two points of the circle Longest chord Longest possible chord in any circle is its diameter - a chord that passes perfectly through the center. And, Length of Diameter = 2 × Radius = 2 × 5 = 10 cm Thus, longest chord is of length 10 cm Smallest chord Remember what a chord is: a line connecting two points on a circle. As we bring those two points closer and closer together, the chord gets shorter and shorter (like 0.1 units, then 0.001 units). Ultimately, if the two points sit exactly on top of each other, the distance is 0. But, that is not a chord then Hence, there is no 'smallest' chord
