Class 7
Chapter 8 Class 7 - Measurement of Time and Motion (Curiosity)
  • The motion of a pendulum is periodic .
  • It repeats its path after a fixed interval of time.

What is One Oscillation?

The pendulum completes one oscillation when its bob moves O → A → B → O.

One Oscillation of a Pendulum Step 1 - Start at Mean Position O Pendulum is at rest at the centre Step 2 - Move to Extreme Position A Bob swings to one side and stops Step 3 - Move to Extreme Position B Bob swings across to the other side Step 4 - Return to Mean Position O Bob comes back to where it started Result: One complete oscillation done

What is Time Period?

  • The time period is the time taken to complete one oscillation.
  • The pendulum also completes one oscillation when it goes A → B → A.
