🔬 Activity 8.1 - Let Us Construct a Water Clock

Materials needed: Plastic bottle (½ litre or larger) with cap, drawing pin, water, ink (optional), watch.

Procedure:

  • Take a transparent plastic bottle with its cap.
  • Cut the bottle into two parts in the middle.
  • Make a small hole in the cap using a drawing pin.
  • Place the upper part inverted over the lower half.
  • Fill the upper part with water and add a drop of ink to make it visible.
  • Mark the water level after every one minute until it empties.

Observation: Each time the dripping water touches a mark, one more minute has passed.

Explanation: Water drips at a steady rate through the small hole. Equal time intervals show as equal level marks.
