Question 37 (iii) - Choice (B) Let S be a point which divides the line joining PQ in ratio 2:3. Find the coordinates of S. Given points P(2, 5) & Q(4, 4) Let the point be S(x, y) which divides PQ in ratio 2 : 3 P (2, 5) Q (4, 4) S (x, y) Finding x x = (𝑚1 𝑥2 + 𝑚2 𝑥1)/(𝑚1 + 𝑚2) Putting values x = (2 × 4 + 3 × 2)/(2 + 3) x = (8 + 6)/5 x = 𝟏𝟒/𝟓 Finding y y = (𝑚1 𝑦2 + 𝑚2 𝑦1)/(𝑚1 + 𝑚2) Putting values y = (2 × 4 + 3 × 5)/(2 + 3 ) y = (8 + 15)/5 y = 𝟐𝟑/𝟓 So, the required point is S (x, y) = S(𝟏𝟒/𝟓, 𝟐𝟑/𝟓)
