Question 5 If 𝑠𝑒𝑐 𝛳 + 𝑡𝑎𝑛 𝛳 = 𝑥 ,then 𝑠𝑒𝑐 𝛳 − 𝑡𝑎𝑛 𝛳 will be (A) 𝑥 (B) 𝑥2 (C) 2/𝑥 (D) 1/𝑥We know that, 1 + tan2 𝜃 = sec2 𝜃 1 = sec2 𝜃 – tan2 𝜃 sec2 𝜃 – tan2 𝜃 = 1 Using (a – b) (a + b) = a2 – b2 identity (sec 𝜃 – tan 𝜃) × (sec 𝜃 + tan 𝜃) = 1 Putting values (sec 𝜃 – tan 𝜃) × x = 1 (sec 𝜃 – tan 𝜃) = 𝟏/𝒙 So, the correct answer is (d)
