The bulk of rainfall in India is concentrated over a few months.

Answer:

  • The southwest monsoon winds are largely responsible for India's rainfall. The monsoon season lasts from June to September.
  • During October-November, with the apparent movement of the sun towards the south, the monsoon trough or the low-pressure trough over the northern plains becomes weaker .
  • As a result, the southwest monsoon winds weaken and start withdrawing gradually
Therefore, the majority of the country's rainfall is concentrated over a few months.
