The rainfall decreased from the east to the west in Northern India because

  1. The Bay of Bengal branch of the South-West monsoon moves northeast and brings more moisture and causing heavy rain in this region.
  2. As it moves further west part of India, it carries less moisture , resulting in a decrease in rainfall in the west.
