India is a large country in South Asia. It covers an area of 3.28 million square kilometers, which makes it the seventh largest country in the world. It has a land boundary of about 15,200 kilometers and a coastline of about 7,516 kilometers. It shares its borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It is also surrounded by the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

India lies between latitudes 8°4'N and 37°6'N and longitudes 68°7'E and 97°25'E. The Tropic of Cancer (23°30'N) passes through the middle of India, dividing it into almost two equal parts. India has a large diversity of physical features, such as mountains, plateaus, plains, deserts, islands and rivers. India also has a variety of climatic conditions, such as tropical, subtropical, temperate and alpine.

India's location and size have influenced its history, culture, economy and environment.
