Fungi are eukaryotic organisms that include microorganisms such as yeasts, moulds and mushrooms. These organisms are classified under kingdom fungi.

  • The organisms of Kingdom Fungi are mostly saprophytic.
  • They may be unicellular(yeast) or filamentous(most fungi). The body of a multicellur and filamentous fungus is called mycelium and is composed of several thread like structure called hyphae.
  • Fungi have a cell wall containing a mixture of chitin and cellulose.
  • The reserve food is glycogen.
