Ex 9.2, 7 Find the equation of the line which passes through the points (โ€“1, 1) and (2, โ€“4). We know that equation of line through two points (x1, y1) & (x2, y2) is ๐‘ฆ โ€“ ๐‘ฆ_1 = (๐‘ฆ_2 โˆ’ ๐‘ฆ_1)/(๐‘ฅ_2 โˆ’ ๐‘ฅ_1 ) (๐‘ฅ โ€“ ๐‘ฅ_1) Since equation of the line through the points (โˆ’1, 1) and (2, โ€“4). Here, x1 = โˆ’1, y1 = 1 & x2 = 2, y2 = โ€“4 Putting values (y โ€“ 1) = ( โˆ’4 โˆ’ 1)/(2 โˆ’ ( โˆ’1)) (x โ€“ (โˆ’1)) (y โ€“ 1) = ( โˆ’5)/(2 + 1) (x + 1) (y โ€“ 1) = ( โˆ’5)/3 (x + 1) 3(y โ€“ 1) = โˆ’5(x + 1) 3y โ€“ 3 = โˆ’5x โ€“ 5 5x + 3y + 2 = 0 Hence, the required equation is 5x + 3y + 2 = 0
