Ex 6.3, 3 The length of the minute hand of a clock is 7 cm. Find the area swept by the minute hand in 10 minutes. We need to find Area swept by the minute hand in 10 minutes. That will be the area of sector Since radius is given, let’s find the angle made by minute hand in 10 minutes Angle made by minute hand in 10 minutes Minute hand completes full circle degree in one hour Now, Angle swept by minute hand in 1 hour (i.e 60 minutes ) = 360° Angle swept by minutes hand in 1 minutes = 360/60 = 6° Angle swept by minute hand in 10 minutes = 6° × 10 = 60° Now, finding Area Here, θ = 60° , r = 7 cm Now, Area swept by minute hand = Area of sector = θ/360× πr2 = 𝟔𝟎/𝟑𝟔𝟎×𝟐𝟐/𝟕× 𝟕𝟐 = 1/6×22/7 × 7 × 7 = 1/3×11/1× 7 × 1 = 77/3 = 25.666… cm2 ∴ Area swept by minute hand in 10 minutes = 25.666… cm2
