Question 5 The value of x for which 2x, (x + 10) and (3x + 2) are the three consecutive terms of an AP is (A) 6 (B) − 6 (C) −2 (D) 2If 2x, (x + 10) and (3x + 2) are in AP Their common difference will be equal So, we write 3rd term – 2nd term = 2nd term – 1st term (3x + 2) – (x + 10) = (x + 10) – 2x 3x + 2 – x – 10 = x + 10 – 2x 2x – 8 = –x + 10 2x + x = 10 + 8 3x = 18 x = 18/3 x = 6 So, correct answer is (a)
