Contraceptive measures can be mechanical , surgical or hormonal .
- Contraceptive pills work on hormones to prevent ovulation, or prevent the sperm from reaching the egg.
- These can cause hormonal imbalances .
- Surgical methods such as CopperT and IUD can cause irritation to the uterine lining, infections as well as complications if not placed correctly.
- Mechanical barriers also help in the prevention of STDs .
