- Poor infrastructure.
5.2 Why is production and consumption of steel considered as an index of a country’s development?

Steel is a fundamental component of most heavy industries , and its production and consumption reflect a country's level of industrialisation . Higher the industrialisation, higher is said to be the development of a country.
