Question 36 In the figure given below, ABCD is a square of side 14 cm with E, F, G and H as the mid points of sides AB, BC, CD and DA respectively. The area of the shaded portion is (a) 44 cm2 (b) 49 cm2 (c) 98 cm2 (d) 49π/2 cm2 Shaded Area = Area of semicircle with radius 7 cm + (1/2 × Area of square − 2 × Area of quadrant with radius 7 cm) = Area of semicircle with radius 7 cm + (1/2 × Area of square − 2 × Area of quadrant with radius 7 cm) = Area of semicircle with radius 7 cm + (1/2 × Area of square − Area of semicircle with radius 7 cm) = 𝟏/𝟐 × Area of square = 1/2 × 142 = 1/2 × 196 = 98 cm2 So, the correct answer is (c)
