Question 1 - Think & Reflect (Page 127) What is the difference in radius between the first and second lanes? Use the Fig. 6.11 to find the stagger needed by the runner in the second lane. Will an equal stagger be needed between the third and second lanes? The second lane starts immediately after the first lane ends. So, difference in radius would be the width of one lane Therefore, Difference in radius b/w 1st and 2nd lane = 1.22 m Now, we need to answer the next question Use the Fig. 6.11 to find the stagger needed by the runner in the second lane Both runners cover the exact same distance on the straight portion . The extra distance ONLY comes from the curves (a full circle). Thus, Extra Distance = 2 × π × (Radius Difference) = 2 × π × 1.22 = 2 × 3.1416 × 1.22 = 7.67 m Will an equal stagger be needed between the third and second lanes? And, finally we need to answer
