Ex 3.3, 8 Find the rational number 𝑥 such that: 5/6 (𝑥+3/5)=5/6 𝑥+1/2. Using Distributive property on let hand side We distribute the outside term to both terms in the product Now, 𝟓/𝟔 (𝒙+𝟑/𝟓)=5/6 𝑥+1/2 𝟓/𝟔 × 𝒙+𝟓/𝟔 ×𝟑/𝟓=5/6 𝑥+1/2 5/6 𝑥 +(5 × 3)/(6 × 5)=5/6 𝑥+1/2 5/6 𝑥 +(1 × 3)/(6 × 1)=5/6 𝑥+1/2 5/6 𝑥 +3/6=5/6 𝑥+1/2 𝟓/𝟔 𝒙 +𝟏/𝟐=𝟓/𝟔 𝒙+𝟏/𝟐 Since both left and side are exactly same It means x can be ANY rational number. Any number you plug in for x will make this statement true
