Rational Numbers What is a RATIONAL Number? p = numerator denominator Rational comes from "RATIO"! 1 INTEGERS are Rational Numbers 2 FRACTIONS are Rational Numbers FRACTIONS 3 TERMINATING DECIMALS Decimals that END REPEATING (RECURRING) DECIMALS Overbar 0.1212201 01027201 Decimals with a pattern that repeats forever.We can say that All Natural Numbers are Whole Numbers All Whole Numbers are Integers All Integers are Rational Numbers Now, let’s do some questions Is 0 a rational Number? We can write 0 as 0 = 𝟎/𝟏 So, 0 is a rational number Is –8 a rational Number? We can write –8 as –8 = (−𝟖)/𝟏 So, –8 is a rational number Is 𝟕/𝟎 a rational Number? In rational numbers, denominators is never 0 Since 𝟕/𝟎 has denominator 0 So, it is not a rational number Is 𝝅 a rational Number? So, 𝝅 is not a rational number It is an irrational number
