Question 1 - Think and Reflect (Page 47) Can you explain why we need q≠ 0 in the definition of a rational number? Rational number is defined as 𝒑/𝒒 Where q ≠ 0 We require q ≠ 0 because division by zero is undefined in mathematics. Let's look at 3 Examples! EXAMPLE 1 The Pizza Problem Imagine you have 8 slices of pizza and you want to share them equally among 0 people. Impossible! You can't divide into 0 parts. EXAMPLE 2 The Reverse Check Division is backwards multiplication. If , then . anything is ! No number works. EXAMPLE 3 The Calculator Test Test Try typing into any calculator or computer right now. It will say "Error" or "Cannot Divide"!
