Question 1 - Think and Reflect (Page 49) While adding or subtracting two rational numbers having different denominators, how will you make the denominators equal? Let’s take an example Add 𝟏/𝟐 & 𝟏/πŸ‘ We use two methods to solve this Method 1 1/2 + 1/3 = (1 Γ— 3 + 1 Γ— 2)/(2 Γ— 3) = (3 + 2)/6 = 5/6 Method 2 1/2 + 1/3 First, we make denominators same. Common denominator. = LCM of 2 & 3 = 2 Γ— 6 = 6 ∴ 1/2 = 1/3 Thus, 1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = (3 + 2)/6 = πŸ“/πŸ” We will be using Method 1 mostly to add or subtract fractions
