Example 1 (Page 1) Surya wants to use a deep orange colour to capture the sunset. He mixes some red paint and yellow paint to make this colour. The red paint makes up 3/4 of this mixture. What percentage of the colour is made with red? Can you tell what percentage of the colour was made using yellow? Given that red paint makes up 3/4 of this mixture Percentage of Red To convert fraction into percentage, we multiply by 100% Thus, Percentage of color made with red = 3/4 × 100% = 3 × 25% = 75% Percentage of Yellow Total percentage = 100% And, it contains red and yellow Thus, Percentage of color made with yellow = 100% – Percentage of color made with red = 100 – 75 = 25%
