Question 8 Mariam’s grandmother baked a cake. Mariam and her cousins finished 4/5 of the cake. The remaining cake was shared equally by Mariam’s three friends. How much of the cake did each friend get? Let’s assume Total Cake = 1 Now, Cake left for three friends = Total cake – Cake finished by Mariam and cousins = 1 – 4/5 = (5 × 1 − 4)/5 = (5 − 4)/5 = 𝟏/𝟓 Given that The remaining cake was shared equally by Mariam’s three friends. Thus, Cake eaten by 3 friends = 𝟏/𝟓 Cake eaten by 1 friend = 𝟏/𝟓 ×𝟏/𝟑 = (1 × 1)/(5 × 3) = 𝟏/𝟏𝟓 Thus, Each friend got ¹/₁₅ of the cake
