Division of Fractions How to Divide Fractions The simple method: "Keep, Change, Flip". Problem: 2/3÷3/5 KEEP Keep the first fraction (the dividend) exactly as it is. 2/3 CHANGE Change the division sign to a multiplication sign. 3. FLIP Flip the second fraction (the divisor) to find its reciprocal. 5/3 Now, Solve the New Problem: 2/3×5/3=10/9 Let’s take some examples 2 ÷ 𝟑/𝟕 = 2 × 7/3 = (2 × 7)/3 = 14/3 3 ÷ 𝟒/𝟑 = 3 × 3/4 = 9/4 𝟐/𝟑 ÷ 3 = 2/3 ÷ 3/1 = 2/3 × 1/3 = 2/(3 × 3) = 2/9 𝟑/𝟏𝟏 ÷ 5 = 3/11 ÷ 5/1 = 3/11 × 1/5 = 3/(11 × 5) = 3/55 𝟖/𝟑 ÷ 𝟐/𝟕 = 8/3 × 7/2 = (8 × 7)/(3 × 2) = (4 × 7)/3 = 28/3 𝟏/𝟏𝟑 ÷ 𝟑/𝟐 = 1/13 × 2/3 = 2/(13 × 3) = 2/39 𝟐/𝟏𝟏 ÷ 𝟑/𝟒 = 2/11 × 4/3 = (2 × 4)/(11 × 3) = 8/33
