Question 7 Amritpal decides on a destination for his vacation. If he takes a train, it will take him 5 1/6 hours to get there. If he takes a plane, it will take him 1/2 hour. How many hours does the plane save? First, letβs convert our mixed fraction into normal fraction π π/π =5+1/6 =(5 Γ 6 + 1)/6 =(30 + 1)/6 =ππ/π Now, Hours taking plane will save = Hours taken by train β Hours taken by plane = ππ/πβπ/π Common denominator of 6 and 2 will be 6 = 31/6β1/2 Γ3/3 = 31/6β(1 Γ 3)/(2 Γ 3) = 31/6β3/6 = (31 β 3)/6 = 28/6 Simplifying fraction, dividing by 2 in both numerator & denominator = ππ/π hours Thus, the plane saves ππ/π hours
