Question 7 Amritpal decides on a destination for his vacation. If he takes a train, it will take him 5 1/6 hours to get there. If he takes a plane, it will take him 1/2 hour. How many hours does the plane save? First, let’s convert our mixed fraction into normal fraction πŸ“ 𝟏/πŸ” =5+1/6 =(5 Γ— 6 + 1)/6 =(30 + 1)/6 =πŸ‘πŸ/πŸ” Now, Hours taking plane will save = Hours taken by train – Hours taken by plane = πŸ‘πŸ/πŸ”βˆ’πŸ/𝟐 Common denominator of 6 and 2 will be 6 = 31/6βˆ’1/2 Γ—3/3 = 31/6βˆ’(1 Γ— 3)/(2 Γ— 3) = 31/6βˆ’3/6 = (31 βˆ’ 3)/6 = 28/6 Simplifying fraction, dividing by 2 in both numerator & denominator = πŸπŸ’/πŸ‘ hours Thus, the plane saves πŸπŸ’/πŸ‘ hours
