Question 12 Indian Railways offers optional travel insurance for passengers who book e-tickets. It costs 45 paise per passenger. If 1 lakh people opt for insurance in a day, what is the total insurance fee paid?We first convert cost of insurance into rupees Given Cost of insurance = 45 paise = 45 × 1 paise = 45 × 1/100 rupees = Rs 𝟒𝟓/𝟏𝟎𝟎 Now, Number of people opting for insurance = 1 lakh = 1,00,000 We need to find total insurance fee paid Therefore, Total insurance fee = Cost of insurance × Number of people = 𝟒𝟓/𝟏𝟎𝟎 × 1,00,000 = 45 × 1,000 = Rs 45,000
