Reading and Writing Decimals Let’s write some numbers 7 hundreds and 5 ones This is 7 × 100 + 5 = 700 + 5 = 705 7 tens and 5 tenths This is 7 × 10 + 5 × 1/10 = 70 + 5/10 = 70.5 7 units and 5 hundredths This is 7 × 1 + 5 × 1/100 = 7 + 5/100 = 7.05 We can also write this in a place value table Similarly Writing Decimals numbers in words 287.46 Can be written as Two hundred eighty seven point four six OR Two hundred, eighty tens, seven units, four tenths and six-hundredths Let’s look at some more examples. Write decimals as words (i) 14.83 Fourteen point eight three OR Fourteen tens, eight tenths and three-hundredths (ii) 402.9 Four hundred two point nine OR Four hundred, two units and nine-tenths Write decimals (i) One forty one and three – hundredth Number = = 141 + 0.03 = 141.03 (ii) Thirty two point nine one Number = 32.91 Let’s do some questions
