Question 3 What decimal number does each letter represent in the number line below? Since between 6.4 and 6.5, the number line is divided into 4 parts Therefore, Length of each part = (𝟔.𝟓 − 𝟔.𝟒)/𝟒 = 0.1/4 = (1/10)/4 = 1/(10 × 4) = 𝟏/𝟒𝟎 Converting into decimal Since 4 × 25 = 100, we multiply and divide by 25 = 𝟏/𝟒𝟎 ×𝟐𝟓/𝟐𝟓 = (1 × 25)/(40 × 25) = 𝟐𝟓/𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 = 0025/1000 = 0.025 Thus, after each line, there is 0.025 added So, 6.4 + 0.025 = 6.425 6.425 + 0.025 = 6.450 6.450 + 0.025 = 6.475 6.475 + 0.025 = 6.500 Thus, our number line is Thus, a = 6.450 b = 6.525 c = 6.550
