How does Sophie’s imagination contrast with her reality? What are the consequences of her fantasising? Support your answer with examples from the text.

Answer as written by the student:

Sophie’s imagination contrasts with her reality in many ways. She likes to pretend that she is someone else, such as Antoinette, a French girl in the American Revolution, or a film director in Hollywood. She also likes to create stories and scenarios in her mind that are different from her actual life. Her reality, on the other hand, is boring and ordinary. She is a small and shy girl who has trouble fitting in at school and making friends. She lives in a suburban town with her parents and her cat. She has no special talents or hobbies, except for reading and writing.

The consequences of her fantasising are both positive and negative.
