Do only green plants do photosynthesis?

  • Photosynthesis requires the presence of chlorophyll in the leaves. 
  • Leaves having multiple colour pigments can have different colours. Coloured leaves also contain chlorophyll.
  • So other pigments can mask the green colour of the leaves.
  • Therefore, photosynthesis can be performed by leaves of colours other than green as well.
    Example - Red maple and Purple beech
