Now,

  • Since the compound has an -OH group , it is an alcohol. Therefore, the suffix would be “ ol ” 
  • Also, since 2 carbon atoms are present, the name of the compound will start with “Eth”

So, the compound will be ethanol .

(ii) 

Now,

  • In the compound, =O group is present which means it is an aldehyde . So the suffix will be “ al ” 
  • Also, since 2 carbon atoms are present, the name of the compound will start with “Eth”

So, the compound will be ethanal .
