Give reasons:

A gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container.

Answer

The particles of gas have negligible force of attraction between them,

  • Hence the particles are very loosely bound
  • And, the particles of matter are always in a random continuous motion.

Hence, the particles of the gas strike the walls of the container due to the random motion and thus exert pressure on the walls of the container.
