A gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container.

 

Answer

 

The particles of gas have negligible force of attraction between them, hence the particles are very loosely bound, and also the particles of matter are always in a random continuous motion. 

Hence, the particles of the gas strike the walls of the container due to the random motion and thus exert pressure on the walls of the container.
