Example 10 Find the values of x and y from the following equation: 2[โ 8(๐ฅ&5@7&๐ฆโ3)] + [โ 8(3&โ4@1&2)] = [โ 8(7&6@15&14)] 2[โ 8(๐ฅ&5@7&๐ฆโ3)] + [โ 8(3&โ4@1&2)] = [โ 8(7&6@15&14)] [โ 8(๐ฅ ร 2&5 ร 2@7 ร 2&(๐ฆโ3)ร 2)] + [โ 8(3&โ4@1&2)] = [โ 8(7&6@15&14)] [โ 8(๐๐&๐๐@๐๐&๐๐ โ๐)] + [โ 8(๐&โ๐@๐&๐)] = [โ 8(๐&๐@๐๐&๐๐)] [โ 8(2๐ฅ+3&10 โ4@14+1&2๐ฆ โ6+2)] = [โ 8(7&6@15&14)] [โ 8(๐๐+๐&๐@๐๐&๐๐ โ๐)] = [โ 8(๐&๐@๐๐&๐๐)] Since matrices are equal. Corresponding elements are equal 2x + 3 = 7 & 2y โ 4 = 14 Solving these equations Solving (1) 2x = 7 โ 3 2x = 4 x = 4/2 x = 2 Hence x = 2 & y = 9 Solving (2) 2y โ 4 = 14 2y = 14 + 4 2y = 18 y = ๐๐/๐ = 9
