Ex 2.2, 7 If the length of a rectangle is three more than twice its width and its perimeter is 24 cm, what are the dimensions of the rectangle? Let Width of rectangle = w Given that Length of a rectangle is three more than twice its width So, we can write Length of rectangle = 3 + 2 × Width of rectangle = 3 + 2 × w = 3 + 2w Also, given that perimeter of rectangle is 24 cm Thus, Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × (Length + Width) Putting values 24 = 2 × (3 + 2w + w) 24 = 2 × (3 + 3w) 24 = 2 × 3 + 2 × 3w 24 = 6 + 6w 24 – 6 = 6w 18 = 6w 6w = 18 w = 18/6 w = 3 Thus, Width of rectangle = w = 3 cm Length of rectangle = 3 + 2w = 3 + 2 × 3 = 3 + 6 = 9 cm
