Ex 2.2, 2 (i) Find the value of the quadratic polynomial 7s2 – 4s + 6 if: (i) s = 0 Let p(s) = 7s2 – 4s + 6 For value of polynomial at s = 0, we put s = 0 in p(s) Putting s = 0 in p(s) p(0) = 7 × 02 – 4 × 0 + 6 = 0 – 0 + 6 = 6 Ex 2.2, 2 (ii) Find the value of the quadratic polynomial 7s2 – 4s + 6 if: (ii) s = –3 Since p(s) = 7s2 – 4s + 6 Putting s = –3 in p(s) p(–3) = 7 × (–3)2 – 4 × (–3) + 6 = 7 × 9 + 4 × 3 + 6 = 54 + 12 + 6 = 72 Ex 2.2, 2 (iii) Find the value of the quadratic polynomial 7s2 – 4s + 6 if: (iii) s = 4 Since p(s) = 7s2 – 4s + 6 Putting s = 4 in p(s) p(4) = 7 × 42 – 4 × 4 + 6 = 7 × 16 – 16 + 6 = 112 – 16 + 6 = 118 – 16 = 102
