Ex 2.2, 4 The difference between two positive integers is 63. The ratio of the two integers is 2:5. Find the two integers. Let the smaller integer be x Given that difference between two positive integers is 63 So, we can write Difference between two numbers = 63 Bigger Integer – Smaller Integer = 63 Bigger Integer – x = 63 Bigger Integer = 63 + x Also, given that ratio of the two integers is 2:5 Thus, Smaller Integer : Bigger Integer = 2 : 5 (𝑺𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒓 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒆𝒓)/(𝑩𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒆𝒓)=𝟐/𝟓 Putting values 𝒙/(𝟔𝟑 + 𝒙)=𝟐/𝟓 5 × x = 2 × (63 + x) 5x = 2 × 63 + 2x 5x = 126 + 2x 5x – 2x = 126 3x = 126 x = 126/3 x = 42 Thus, our integers are Smaller integer = x = 42 Bigger integer = 63 + x = 63 + 42 = 105
