Question 1 - Page 18 Due to heavy rains, Snehal could not transport strawberries to Hyderabad from his farm in Panchgani. He sells some of his stock at ₹80 per kg with a 12% loss. What is the cost price? Given Selling Price = ₹ 80 per kg Loss Percentage = 12% We need to find Cost Price Now, Loss Percentage = 𝑳𝒐𝒔𝒔/(𝑪𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆) × 100 Loss Percentage = (𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒 − 𝑆𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒)/(𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒) × 100 Putting values 12 = (𝑪𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆 − 𝟖𝟎)/(𝑪𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆) × 100 12/100 = (𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒 − 80)/(𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒) 3/25 = (𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒 − 80)/(𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒) Cross multiplying 3 × Cost Price = 25 × (Cost Price – 80) 3 × Cost Price = 25 × Cost Price – 25 × 80 3 × Cost Price = 25 × Cost Price – 2000 3 × Cost Price + 2000 = 25 × Cost Price 2000 = 25 × Cost Price – 3 × Cost Price 2000 = Cost Price × (25 – 3) 2000 = Cost Price × 22 2000/22 = Cost Price Cost Price = 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎/𝟐𝟐 Cost price = 1000/11 Cost price = 500/7 Cost Price = 90.909… Thus, cost price is approximately ₹ 90.909
