Question 5 Which is heavier: 12/15 of 500 grams or 3/20 of 4 kg? To compare the two numbers, we need to make the units same Using grams Since 1 kg = 1,000 gm 4 kg = 4 × 1000 = 4000 gm So, we need to compare 𝟏𝟐/𝟏𝟓 of 500 grams or 𝟑/𝟐𝟎 of 4000 grams 𝟏𝟐/𝟏𝟓 of 500 grams Now, 𝟏𝟐/𝟏𝟓 of 500 = 12/15 × 500 = (12 × 500)/15 = (12 × 100)/3 = (4 × 100)/1 = 400 grams 𝟑/𝟐𝟎 of 4000 grams Now, 𝟑/𝟐𝟎 of 4000 = 3/20 × 4000 = (3 × 4000)/20 = (3 × 400)/2 = (3 × 200)/1 = 600 grams Since 600 grams > 400 grams ∴ 𝟑/𝟐𝟎 of 4 kg is heavier
