Question 3 Find the area of a rectangle of sides 3 3/4 ft and 9 3/5 ft. First, we convert length and breadth to proper fractions Now, Length = 9 3/5 ft = 9+3/5 = (9 × 5 + 3)/5 = (45 + 3)/5 = 𝟒𝟖/𝟓 ft And, Breadth = 9 3/5 ft = 9+3/5 = (9 × 5 + 3)/5 = (45 + 3)/5 = 𝟒𝟖/𝟓 ft Breadth = 3 cm Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth = 5.7 cm × 3 cm = 57/10 × 3 × (cm × cm) Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth = 𝟒𝟖/𝟓 ft × 𝟏𝟓/𝟒 ft = 48/5 ×15/4 × (ft × ft) = 48/5 ×15/4 × ft2 = (𝟒𝟖 × 𝟏𝟓)/(𝟓 × 𝟒) = (48 × 3)/(1 × 4) = (12 × 3)/(1 × 1) = 36 ft2 ∴ The area of the rectangle is 36 square feet.
