Explain which two forces are responsible for shaping the present geographic features of India. Which continents were parts of Gondwana land?
Answer to be written in exam :
- The Gondwana Land was an ancient supercontinent that broke up about 180 million years ago. The continent eventually split into landmasses we recognise today Africa, South America, Australia, Antarctica, the Indian subcontinent and the Arabian Peninsula.
- The two forces that are responsible for shaping the present geographic features of India are : Divergent and convergent movements.
- The position and size of the continents have been changed due to the movements of these crustal plates over millions of years. The present landform features and reliefs of India are the part of this process.
