I talked to two farm labourers in Alipur, Delhi, India. They told me that they get paid in cash for their work. They earn about Rs 300 per day on average, depending on the season and the type of work they do. They said that they do not get work regularly, especially during the monsoon and winter seasons, when there is less demand for farm labour. They also said that they are in debt, as they have to borrow money from moneylenders or landlords to meet their daily expenses and cope with emergencies.
