SPORE FORMATION IN RHIZOPUS - Teachoo.jpg

Reproduction through spores is asexual type of reproduction i.e. only a single parent is involved.

The advantages of reproducing through spores includes:

  • There is a production of a large number of spores in the sporangium which are capable of producing a large number of organisms.
  • Since the spores are extremely light weight, they can travel great distances and therefore dispersed in a large area . This reduces the competition among the offspring for basic resources like nutrition, water etc.
  • The spores have a thick coating around themselves which allows them to survive in unfavorable conditions .
